Muf scoops Science Museum interactive gallery job

Muf has been chosen to design the Science Museum’s new £4 million interactive gallery

The London-based studio defeated NORD Architecture, Grimshaw, Farshid Moussavi Architecture, Universal Design Studio and David Kohn Architects to land the project.

Planned to complete in 2016, the new exhibition will be the successor to the museum’s family-friendly Launch Pad and will focus on the ‘awe and wonder’ of science and maths.

The appointment is the latest to emerge from the world-famous South Kensington museum which just last month selected Wilkinson Eyre to design a new £24 million suite of medical galleries.

In May Coffey Architects was chosen to design the west London museum’s new £1.8 million library and the winner of a £5 million mathematics gallery is expected to be announced shortly.

Zaha Hadid, Carmody Groarke, Hugh Broughton, Casper Mueller Kneer, Adam Richards Architects and Universal Design Studio are all vying for the mathematics job.

The projects are all part of a revised £60 million, first-stage redevelopment programme which has emerged following the demise of Wilkinson Eyre’s original £150 million regeneration vision in 2011.
