Short description of the contract or purchase(s):
The University has prioritised the modernisation and expansion of its student accommodation stock as one of its strategic objectives.
Currently, all 1 100 bed spaces are located on its Main Campus at Treforest within two separate but closely linked sites. The larger of the two sites - Glamorgan Court - was built in 1992 and provides 732 no. self-catered ensuite bedrooms, all of which are to be refurbished in the near future.
The other site, known locally as buildings UA,UB,UC,UD, were built in 1971 and provide 380 no. traditionally designed(i.e. shared bathrooms/kitchens) study bedrooms. These buildings are in urgent need of modernisation and / or re-development. The University would also wish to increase the quantity of rooms from 380 to c. 500 as part of the project.
The project objectives are:

b) to deliver the project within a budget of 20m;
c) to achieve a BREEAM Excellent rating or as near to Excellent as can be realistically achieved;
d) completion by May 2011.
The University is seeking to appoint a Design Team to provide Architectural and Engineering Services for the timely delivery of this demanding project. The Design Team will link up with the Project Manager/QS/CDM team who will be appointed separately.
