Minister to open Portland Place conference

Trade minister Lord Green is to speak at a conference on the future of architecture education at RIBA’s Portland Place headquarters

The event, Recognition of Professional Qualifications in the EU: Challenges and Opportunities, is timed to mark the start of Lithuania’s presidency of the EU.

Stephen Hodder, who starts his presidency of the RIBA on 1 September, will join Lord Green and Lithuanian urban planning minister Valentinas Mazuronis in opening the 9 September event.

Other speakers will include representatives of the European Commission, the Architects Council of Europe, the UK Architects Registration Board and the Construction Industry Council.

They will discuss whether impending legislative changes will empower or challenge the movement of architects within the single market.

Hodder said: ‘Our upcoming conference is a great opportunity for those interested in the future of architectural education in the UK and the EU to join the debate and hear direct from those responsible for implementing the upcoming reforms.’
