Material Lab to launch student competition

The backers of London's popular Material Lab showroom are set to launch a student competition to design a temporary extension for the building.

Tile manufacturer H&R Johnson, owner of the materials display centre on Great Titchfield Street in the West End, will reveal details of the competition next week.

The contest will be for plans to temporarily extend the building, which was designed to allow for an extension.

Material Lab is a self-styled 'new materials resource centre' which allows specifiers to 'get their hands on a selection of surface materials'.

The competition's winning entry will stand for a year and if the initiative is judged successful, the extension will be repeated 12 months later.
