Masdar City

Foster + Partners have designed a six million square metre zero-carbon, zero-waste micro-city

Located 17km south-east of Abu Dhabi City, Masdar is a six million square metre sustainable micro-city, designed by Foster + Partners with developer Abu Dhabi Future Energy Company (ADFEC), wholly owned by the government of Abu Dhabi. Based on the principles of a walled city, yet acting as a high-tech global centre for renewable energy and environmental initiatives, the development is set to be zero-carbon and zero-waste.

One key objective of Masdar is to position Abu Dhabi as a world-class research and development hub for new energy technologies, while ensuring that the emirate maintains a strong position in world energy markets.
