Major Modern building under way in Georgian Bath - images

Aaron Evans Architects' £3 million performing arts building in Bath has started on site.

The practice's design for what it has labelled an 'unashamedly contemporary' facility is now being built.

The architect has described the building as using a 'dramatic set of cantilevering and interlocking cubes, reflecting the dynamic nature of its subject'.

The arts building will include television and recording studios, a dance studio and music practice areas when it completes at the end of the year.

The architect claimed that the building's 'high acoustic performance' would reduce sound leaking between its studios.

The performing arts facility will be built at the City of Bath College's Avon Street Campus.

An Aaron Evans spokesperson said: 'The state-of-the-art development will further enhance the exemplary professional standard of music and performing arts at the college.'
