Local firm DKS unveils marketing suite designed for Middlesbrough gateway

These are the first images of the competition-winning scheme for the new marketing suite at the gateway to the massive £200 million Middlehaven development in Middlesbrough.

Designed by local firm DKS, the scheme will sit alongside buildings already submitted for planning by FAT (AJ 12.07.07) and SMC Alsop within the high-profile Alsop/Studio Egret West masterplan.

The practice was chosen following a contest organised by eco-friendly developer BioRegional Quintain, Tees Valley Regeneration and CABE, targeted at architects under 40-years-old based in the North East.

DKS' proposals for the new £250,000 show apartment and marketing suite have been conceived as a 'a cluster of linked cube-shaped buildings'.

Speaking about the competition success, DKS partner Mark Barlow said: 'This was a great opportunity for all of the invited practices to demonstrate that there is a wealth of design talent located in the North East.

'We are thrilled that we have been selected to develop the design for this iconic building on the basis of the ideas we put forward in the competition.'

A planning application for the scheme has been submitted to Middlesbrough Borough Council and it is hoped the 'fast-track project' could start on site by the end of the summer.
