Littlemore takes the reins at SMC

The SMC Group has named Chris Littlemore as its new chief executive following what he describes as a ‘difficult time’ for the business.

Littlemore will move from his current role as managing director and relieve Rodney Walker from the position, who took over the role from the company’s founder, Stewart McColl.

Walker, who will revert to his initial role as non-executive chairman, took the reins of SMC back in May 2007.

Speaking about his new appointment, Littlemore said: ‘I would like to thank Sir Rodney for his input and leadership during a difficult time for the business. I am grateful for the confidence shown in me by the board and I look forward to the challenge of this new role.

‘Since February, the company has moved forwards, establishing and delivering against a firm business plan.’

Earlier this month, the AJ reported that the SMC board is contemplating separating Will Alsop’s practice from the rest of the SMC fold as part of a planned rebranding that the company is about to undertake.
