Leicester regeneration: Soar bridge finalists

Explorations Architecture has been named as one of the finalists to design a new bridge over the River Soar in Leicester

Paris-based Explorations Architecture has been named among the six finalists in the RIBA-backed competition to design a new foot and cycle bridge over the River Soar in Leicester.

The practice, working alongside engineers Buro Happold, is joined on the shortlist by Allies and Morrison with Price & Myers, Knight Architects with Gifford bridge designers, McDowell + Benedetti with Arup and Moxon Architects with Arup and Ramboll Whitbybird.

The contest attracted a massive 151 expressions of interest from across the globe, including entrants from India, Australia, Iceland, Brazil and the USA.

James Sinclair of Leicester Regeneration Company said 'We have been delighted by both the quantity and the quality of the submissions received, even though this has made the selection exercise a very exacting process.

‘We now have an outstanding shortlist of design teams and look forward to seeing the results of their design development in the New Year.’

All six shortlisted designs will be submitted in early February 2009 with final presentations held on 19 February 2009 in Leicester.
