In pictures: Winners of the 2013 Aga Khan Award revealed

Five projects, inclunding an Islamic Cemetery in Austria and an architectural conservation centre in Palestine have been handed Aga Khan Awards for Architecture

The triumphant projects were chosen from a shortlist of 20 schemes and will each win a share of the US$ 1 million prize fund.

The winners are selected by an independent Master Jury, which this year included David Adjaye and Wang Shu.

Established in 1977, the award is run every three years and aims to encourage architecture which ‘respects the traditions of Muslim societies’. It recognises all types of architecture from small projects to large scale masterplans.
