[PROJECT DATA + PLANS] Gareth Hoskins Architects has won planning for this health centre in Glasgow
The three-storey health centre houses clinical rooms on the ground level, with four GP practices on the first floor, and staff spaces on the second floor. The three floors are connected by a triple-height space.
The 6,000m² building is arranged around two courtyards which allow natural daylight and ventilation into the building.
The project is expected to complete in early 2015.
The architect’s view
The proposals build in flexibility and innovation in layout and construction and have been developed through a process of workshops with a series of consultative groups including the local community, patients, staff, clinicians and the procuring authority.
The 6,000m² building is organised over three floors and arranged around two external courtyards, one enclosed on all sides, the other open towards trees to the south. The courtyards allow a high level of natural daylight and ventilation through the entire building.
The ground floor accommodates a series of bookable rooms providing clinical, interview and support spaces for services ranging from physiotherapy and podiatry to mental health. Four GP practices are located on the first floor with the reception desks and waiting areas organized around the central arrival space. Waiting areas have views out to the courtyards as well as overlooking the activity in the main foyer below. The staff offices, shared staff room and meeting suites are located on the second floor which is to be the headquarters of the East Renfrewshire Community Health and Care Partnership.
The three floors are connected by a triple height space above the main foyer with a community café and information zone providing a focus for the building at ground floor level. This central space also contains a variety of group and meeting rooms to support a range of third sector services and to facilitate community use out of hours.
