Hawkins\Brown among practices vying for elements of Colchester retail scheme

Hawkins\Brown, Hakes Associates and Studio Egret West are among 10 shortlisted practices vying for three separate elements in a new retail development in Colchester.

Vineyard Gate will be a contemporary retail scheme comprising a wide range of new units including a department store, a bus station, parking facilities and residential accommodation.

The 55,000m2 scheme in Colchester's town centre will give the firms the opportunity to work on the external facade of the park's department store, a pedestrian bridge over Southway, and a public space between the centre and the Town Hall.

The shortlist for the department store's facade includes Chapman Taylor, Studio Egret West, Hawkins\Brown and Hakes Associates.

The shortlist for the bridge sees Birds Portchmouth Russum take on MLM Consulting Engineers with Hakes Associates and Price & Myers.

The final shortlist for the public realm involves awp, Chris Blandford Associates and Gross Max.

The proposals will be presented at a public exhibition in Colchester early next month.
