Hadid reveals Barcelona 'Spiralling Tower' - images

Zaha Hadid has unveiled these images of her new 'Spiralling Tower' proposals - a mixed-use office, university and exhibition development on Barcelona's waterfront.

The Edifici Campus scheme, developed with the help of the neighbouring city of Besos, will house 12,150m 2of commercial space and 8,500m 2of educational facilities, including a new auditorium.

Designed in collaboration with Adams Kara Taylor and Max Fordham, the new building will also incorporate 7,000m 2of car parking.

According to the design statement, the project will 'bind together' the up-and-coming seafront area of Barcelona with the Besos river delta regeneration zone.

The statement goes on: 'The critical mass generated at the site will act as a catalyst on the transition between the forum and the campus, creating potential new synergies between the different stake holders- through the use of cantilevers, the building lifts from the street level, releasing the ground to be occupied by civic uses.'

Hadid was officially announced as the project architect by the mayor of Barcelona last week.
