Greenhill Jenner completes Hackney hospice

Greenhill Jenner has officially unveiled its new £9.6 million extension to St Joseph's Hospice in Hackney, east London.

The recently completed building houses 61 beds, making St Joseph's the largest hospice in the UK.

Part of a planned redevelopment of the Mare Street site, the five-storey L-shaped extension also connects with the existing hospice building to create a new courtyard.

The patients' rooms - a mix of single, family and four-bed wards - overlook this space, while family accommodation and examination rooms face on to the main road.

Sliding timber shutters on the facade are used to provide privacy and help with environmental control.
