Green Construction Board launches low carbon 'routemap'

The Green Construction Board has published a new routemap to help the industry meet national carbon reduction targets

The board, which includes Sunand Prasad of Penoyre and Prasad and Lynne Sullivan from sustainableBYdesign, has called for urgent action to reduce carbon emissions.

The Low Carbon Routemap for the Built Environment was launched by former government chief construction adviser Paul Morrell at Ecobuild. It sets out what is needed from the construction industry to achieve government targets of an 80 per cent reduction in emissions by 2050.

Green Construction Board co-chair Michael Fallon said: ‘This Routemap will help shape our Industrial Strategy for construction as we plan for the long term. It’s a valuable contribution to our continuing work with industry and shows that even closer collaboration is required in the future if we want to get closer to achieving our objective.

‘While the Routemap shows that the 80 per cent carbon reduction target is a very challenging one, we must not lose sight of the overall objective which is to minimise carbon emissions.’
