Grant Associates completes Singapore children's play area

Bath-based Grant Associates has designed a children’s play area in Singapore

The landscape architects created the Far East Organisation Children’s Garden within Bay South Garden in the South East Asian city.

Opened in January, the children’s garden offers 1ha of water play, tree houses, trails and arches.

There is also a linked series of balancing, clambering, swinging and climbing elements.

A leaf-shaped canopy structure provides shelter from the rain and hot sun, reaching over an outdoor amphitheatre formed by stepped granolithic-finish concrete benches.

Andrew Grant, director at Grant Associates, said: ‘The Far East Organization Children’s Garden at Gardens by the Bay will create play opportunities that are not found elsewhere in Singapore that connect children to nature via technology, art and horticulture.’

Since opening in June 2012, Gardens by the Bay has received more than 7 million visitors.

Grant Associates masterplanned Bay South, which includes 18 vertical gardens, or supertrees, and Wilkinson Eyre-designed giant cooled conservatories.

AJ reported recently that Grant Associates was working on a new masterplan for the Royal Botanic Gardens in Sydney.
