Glenn Howells bags key Manchester scheme

Glenn Howells Architects has seen off FLACQ, Stanton Williams and Austin-Smith:Lord to win the competition to redevelop Elisabeth House in Manchester’s St Peter’s Square.

The scheme, backed by Argent and joint-venture developer Greater Manchester Property Venture Fund, will replace the existing 1960s building (pictured) with a 28,000m2 Grade-A office block.

The Birmingham-based practice was selected following a national contest, which attracted 50 entries including local firm AEW with Scandinavian big-hitter White.

A planning application is expected to be submitted next year and the scheme is due to complete in 2011.
