Glasgow School of Art to launch design competition
The school announced this week that the Scottish Funding Council had pledged around £50 million to redevelop its aging campus – a major boost for the school which is hoping to create a ‘modern learning and research environment‘ for its 1,700 students and 400 staff.
GSA spokesman Scott Parsons said: ‘This will be a once-in-a-lifetime chance to build across from the world-famous Mackintosh building. We expect it will attract a lot of interest.’
The Mackintosh is currently undergoing a £8.6 million refit and renovation by ZM Architecture with Page\Park Architects, and the proposed new scheme will form the first phase of a much larger redevelopment.
It is understood the contest will be officially launched in the Spring 2009.
