Gillespies’ Bradford park wins planning approval

Gillespies’ Park at the Heart of Bradford scheme has received detailed planning permission from the city council.

Gillespies’ Park at the Heart of Bradford scheme has received detailed planning permission from the city council.

The £30 million scheme – which has rocketed up from its original £17 million price tag (Cost of Gillespies’ Bradford City Park jumps by £7 million) – is vying for £24.5 million of funding from the Big Lottery Fund’s Living Landmarks grant.

The design features a ‘mirror pool’ in the heart of the park beside the city’s Grade I-listed City Hall. The park will host public events and concerts, and will also feature children’s play areas, quiet spaces, bars, cafés and restaurants.

The Bradford scheme is competing with 22 other cities across the UK for the Lottery windfall, the winner of which will be decided in November.
