Deadline extended: Get your entries in for the AJ/Saint-Gobain sketching competition

The deadline for the AJ/Saint Gobain sketching competition has been extended to the 13 December

The Architects’ Journal and Saint-Gobain have teamed up to launch this year’s sketching competition, which seeks to encourage architectural drawing and find a new generation of talented draughtspeople.

The brief

This year’s theme is ‘Habitation’. Some of our basic needs are for shelter, for comfort and for company, all of which we seek in our houses and in our homes. This year’s competition asks you to explore different ways in which we make our houses, neighbourhoods and cities our own.

We ask you to produce a sketch which celebrates how we dwell within our buildings, towns and cities. The drawing could be an interior of a private house, children playing in a town square, or the remains of an enjoyable dinner party. They may be formal measured drawings, a collage, or a quick sketch. Entries can be executed using pencil, pastels, gouache or mixed media – but should not be produced either wholly or in part on a computer.

The prizes

We will publish the best entries in the AJ. The best sketch will receive an iPad Mini and a trip to Paris to visit the Saint-Gobain research and development HQ and its DomoLab innovation experience centre. The best sketch by a student will get an annual subscription to both the AJ and The Architectural Review and a set of drawing pencils.

How To Enter

Email your sketches and drawings to sketchcompetition@emap.com, marked with the subject line ‘Saint-Gobain sketch’, or post them to: Rakesh Ramchurn, Emap, Greater London House, Telephone House, 69-77 Paul Street, London, EC2A 4NQ.
