German big names appointed to masterplan Crystal Palace - image

The London Development Agency has impressed observers with a brave and impressive appointment to masterplan Crystal Palace Park.

The quango has handed the important commission to German practice Latz + Partners, one of the most significant landscape firms working in Europe today.

The Bavaria-based office rose to prominence in the Nineties with the hugely successful Duisburg North Landscape Park (pictured).

Latz + Partners, who will be working with London's Meadowcroft Griffin, will draw up a plan for the overall future of the park, which will now include the retained Modernist Crystal Palace Sports Hall.

The two firms will draw up a planning application for the whole park including the existing buildings. It is expected to be lodged this time next year.

Tilman Latz, of Latz + Partners, said: 'We are honoured to have the job of turning the London Development Agency's vision for a greener, revitalized park into reality.

'We look forward to meeting this challenge. We hope that the people who use and share Crystal Palace park will be excited by our plans to work with this historic space and turn it into a modern facility fit for the twenty-first century.'
