Fox Hill back in motion

Almost a decade since Dutch firm Mecanoo started its first project in the UK at Fox Hill in Sheffield, the stalled scheme looks set to start again on site

Only six of the houses for the scheme were completed before the developer Artisan went into administration. In a BBC interview in 2012, a local resident compared the unfinished estate to looking ‘like Beirut’. But things are now looking up. Sheffield City Council has appointed a contractor to complete the remaining 23 part-built units. Whether AJ Woman Architect of the Year Francine Houben’s practice will be asked to return to the job is still a mystery.
