Fosters joins Manchester regeneration

Foster and Partners has released this image of the latest phase in the ongoing regeneration of Manchester's former legal district.

The scheme, located at Hardman Square in the city centre, is part of the 12ha Spinningfields development, which has seen other designs drawn up by John McAslan + Partners.

The first phase of the Foster and Partners development, which is now on site, comprises the construction of office blocks at numbers three and four Hardman Square.

According to the architect these buildings will be 'founded on the principles of light and flexibility'.

Describing the larger, eight-storey, building the architect continued: 'The curved triangular plan is dominated by the pedestrian routes that wrap around it. The ground floor is recessed to provide a colonnade with space for shops that will extend the public realm.'

The project is due to complete in 2007.
