Foster to design South Korean tyre research facility

Foster + Partners is to design a research and development facility in South Korea for Hankook Tire

The world-renowned London-based practice has been commissioned for the scheme in Daejeon.

The centre will house design, research and testing facilities for the tyre manufacturer.

It will also include office accommodation, an education centre, a library and series of exhibition spaces.

Foster + Partners said the project aimed to support Hankook Tire’s ‘progressive and technologically advanced approach to tyre design and manufacture’.

Hyun Bum Cho, president of Hankook Tire, said: ‘Upon completion of the new research and development facility, Hankook will be able to further strengthen research capabilities to develop cutting-edge tyre technology.

‘The new R&D centre will enable us to accelerate the introduction of new tyres with even more advanced features, fulfilling our customers’ demand for premium quality products.’

In September, AJ reported that construction work had started on a huge Foster + Partners mixed-use scheme in central Shanghai, China.

The Hongqiao Wantong Xindi Center project is a 160,000m² development for clients Vantone Real Estate and Sunny World Group.

Construction is due to be completed by the end of 2015.
