Foster joins coterie of starchitects in Turkey

Foster & Partners is among a raft of architecture's most renowned practices who have been signed up to design a vast tourist resort in Turkey.

Baumschlager & Eberle, Steven Holl, Robert Stern and Carlos Ferrater have also been appointed by developer Capital Partners to create the $1.5 billion (£700 million) mixed-use Kaplankaya resort in Turkey's Milas region.

Joining the star-studded list of architects on the 4.8 million m2 scheme are Turkish architects Can Çinici, Sevki Pekin, Nevzat Sayyn and Han Tümertekin.

The development will include 2,000 villas and houses, five hotels, a marina, shopping and entertainment areas, schools, and health and sports centres.

The first phase of the development will open in 2009 and construction is scheduled to be completed by 2012.
