London Mayor Boris Johnson opened the second day of the Thames Gateway Forum with a two minute video, apologising profusely for his absence but heralding the regeneration plan a ‘fantastic motor’ that would ‘pull London out of the current economic climate.’ However the ‘virtual’ Johnson could not leave the screen without blundering saying he hoped everyone had a good ‘credit crunch beating dinner this evening’. The dinner had been the night before.

The wine and dining must have been good because delegate numbers were distinctly down.
