Work starts on Hawkins\Brown's Cambridge college scheme

Construction has begun on Hawkins\Brown’s £9 million technical college in Cambridge

Designed for BAM Construction as a centre of excellence for Biomedical and Environmental Science and Technology, the scheme was granted planning consent in July 2013.

The Cor-ten steel clad building has full-height glazing to give clear visibility, with the ground floor used to ‘showcase social learning and informal activity’.

Traditional formal classrooms are placed on the first floor with flexible laboratories on the second floor. The rooftop plant will be used for pupil instruction.

The college is scheduled to complete in September 2014.

The UTC Cambridge is a new education model. We have enjoyed drawing from our experience across the education sector to create innovative learning spaces that will give secondary school students the opportunity to learn in a setting that takes precedent from both industry and higher education.
