Stride Treglown polishes off Portishead marina project

  • Comment

Stride Treglown’s Port Marine dockside apartments have completed in Portishead, North Somerset

Designed by the Bristol-based practice, the development contains 68 apartments, all with south-facing living rooms looking onto the marina.

The homes sit above 1,314m² of commercial space on the ground floor. These restaurants, cafés and shops face onto a waterside public route that runs alongside the marina.

The first floor apartments overhanging the ground floor shops, all open out onto large private terraces, with the flats on second floor and above containing balconies, some the width of the entire apartment, large enough to accommodate tables and chairs.

Architect’s view

‘The marina is a very special context and is very prescriptive when it comes to the character of the location. Our two sites frame the northern and eastern side of the marina and have the potential of reinforcing the ‘marina aesthetic’. To that end we have ‘taken our inspiration from well known marina locations such as Biarritz’s, St Tropez and Honfleur.

‘We felt that there was a real opportunity to reinforce the traditional marina aesthetic with a contemporary interpretation without reverting to nautical features such as portholes and horizontal railings.’
