Starlets squeeze three-storey home onto tiny plot

[FIRST LOOK + PLANS] Emerging practice 31/44 Architects have entered this three storey house in Lewisham, London, into this year’s AJ Small Projects Awards

Designed by architect Stephen Davies as his own home, the three-bedroom house sits on a tight 73m² plot, constrained on its three sides by an existing end terrace, a road and a river.

To maximise the building’s size the three storey structure extends to the edge of the site’s buildable space, with a riverside terrace and external courtyard created at the rear of the property in a space required to allow mandated access to a historic river wall.

Internally, the layout is orientated to face south towards the river, with an open plan kitchen/dining room on the ground floor, two bedrooms on the first floor and a master suite and roof terrace on the top floor.

More than 10 per cent of the dwelling’s floor area is allocated to storage placed in the spaces left over between the services.
