Moxon unwraps west London townhouse revamp
Moxon Architects has completed the refurbishment and extension of a Grade II-Listed house in Chelsea
The practice has reconfigured the four-storey townhouse in west London removing partitions to create a reduced number of larger rooms. A rear extension and the addition of a floor to the top of the building has increased the home’s volume by approximately a quarter.
On the open-plan lower ground floor, which opens onto the rear garden, traces of the original structure have been deliberately retained as ‘geometric guidelines’ todivide the living room, kitchen, study and library.
A lime finished English Oak staircase, which extends through the house, combines a high-level library, with a pull-out writing desk, secret compartments and mobile library steps.
