McAdam unveils plans for giant French retail complex

[FIRST LOOK] McAdam Architects has released plans for a 6 million m² retail and logistics centre in northern France

The European International Trade Centre Terra Lorraine will be located on a 130 hectare brown field site in Lorraine region of France near the boarders of Germany and Luxembourg.

The eight-storey main volume, which will contain 3,000,000m² of flexible retail space, is split into four zones, each with a large central courtyard space, which is designed to act as an entrance and orientation point to the complex. The building will also contain 500,000m² of logistic storage and a new customs clearance terminal.

A series of hotels and staff accommodation for up to 40,000 visitors along with office buildings are positioned as stand-alone buildings around the perimeter of this main volume.

The overall strategy for the development has been given the go-ahead by the General Council of Moselle and is currently in the planning process.
