  • Comment

[FIRST LOOK + PLANS] Lewis & Hickey has completed the seven-year refurbishment of Basil Spence’s Grade A-listed Main Library at the University of Edinburgh

The £37 million phased refurbishment of the 3,887m² university library, designed by Sir Basil Spence, Glover & Ferguson, took place over seven years to allow service to continue throughout the works.

Facilities throughout the eight-storey building have been upgraded with repairs to the fabric of the structure, renovation of finishes and the renewal of all building services.

The entrance foyer has been remodelled, a new Special Collections, Archive and Research Centre has been formed on the library’s top two floors, a 220 seat café has been created and a mezzanine level has been inserted to act as a gallery and exhibition space.
