[FIRST LOOK + PLANS + DATA] Hampshire County Council Architect’s outdoor centre alongside the Basingstoke Canal scooped a RIBA Regional Award last week

The council architects completed five buildings for the education facility on the 3.7 hectare woodland site near Aldershot in Hampshire.

A large, multi-use hall for indoor archery, shooting and climbing, with a toilet block stands at the entrance to the centre.

The scheme includes a sleeping block that contains 12 five-bedroom dorms and a dining hall arranged around a central courtyard.

There is also a separate office and administration building, a boiler house and a canoe house with a launch/landing stage onto Basingstoke Canal.

The steel-framed buildings are constructed with structural insulated panels (SIPS) and clad in cedar shingles.

The activity centre also contains a 13m-high external climbing wall/abseiling tower, a high-rope course and a 53m-long artificial cave.
