Cartwright Pickard completes London's largest Passivhaus scheme
Cartwright Pickard has completed a 30-home development, including 18 built to Passivhaus standards, in Hammersmith, west London
Built in a conservation area, the £5.3million project for Octavia Housing & Care features four brick-clad housing blocks.
Two of the four blocks are built to Passivhaus standards; a three-storey terrace of six houses and a five-storey block containing 12 flats. The project is completed by a five-storey apartment block and a two-storey mews of four homes with private roof terraces.
The Sulgrave Road terrace has been designed to ‘re-establish and reinforce the Victorian street frontage’ and contains roof light chimneys that provide daylight and ventilation to circulation areas.
Sliding louvre panels on the development’s south facing windows provide movable solar shading to reduce thermal heat gain and control the levels of direct light.
James Pickard, director, Cartwright Pickard
We are proud to have delivered the biggest certified Passivhaus project in London, and the first mixed tenure Passivhaus project in the UK, proving that Passivhaus dwellings are a viable proposition in urban locations that might previously have been deemed unsuitable. The attractive brick finish and careful detailing demonstrates that eco-homes can be attractive, and don’t have to look ungainly or incongruous.
