Another Hants County Council school wins design gong

[FIRST LOOK + PLANS +DATA] Hampshire County Council Architect’s school for children with learning difficulties took home a Solent Design Award last week

The school in Totton, Hampshire, on the boundary of the New Forest National Park, school contains nine classrooms, a nursery, hydrotherapy pool, multi-sensory room and soft play area, along with physio, speech and occupational therapy rooms.

Built around the school it replaced, to allow the existing school to continue to operate during construction, the new timber clad buildings are arranged around a sequence courtyards along the site’s north and west boundaries.

The school’s larger assembly spaces, such as the hall and dining room are placed at the entrance to the school to form a link between the two teaching wings. The nursery and hydrotherapy suite are positioned in the north west corner of the site and, like the dining hall, are designed so that they can operate independently and offer a specialist facility for wider community use.
