Anglo-American rising star Synthesis completes Thai plaza

[FIRST LOOK + ELEVATIONS + DATA] Synthesis Design + Architecture have completed the plaza for a 60,000m² shopping mall outside Chiang Mai, in Thailand

The emerging practice, which has offices in London and Los Angeles, has designed the mains façades and communal interior areas for this new shopping centre in Lampang, northern Thailand.

Satalongside a motorway, the mall features an aluminium composite diagrid lattice exterior shell, which is backlit with colour changing LED uplights.

Internally the three-story shopping centre is arranged around a scultural atrium that aims to ‘create lateral visual connection between floors and encourage movement through the space’.

The practice was set up by Alvin Huang, a former founding director with Amanda Levete Architects (AL_a) who had previously worked with Future Systems and Zaha Hadid Architects.
