First look: Capita’s clay office building

Capita Architecture has completed this unusual clay and aluminium-clad office block for a schools examination board in Cardiff

The 6000 m², five-storey office is the first phase of a complex designed for the WJEC examinations board.

The building contains conference and meeting rooms, gallery space, a public bookshop and a recording studio. The different elevations are clad in clay tiles and a tessellating pattern of coloured aluminium panels, while the plinth is coated in river pebbles recovered from the site.
