Fairytale ending guaranteed for new design competition
A contest has been launched to design a fairytale-inspired visitor attraction at the birthplace of legendary author Hans Christian Andersen
Odense City Museums and the City of Odense launched the international ideas competition to create ‘a magical house of fairytales and a fairytale garden’.
The competition brief said proposals should create an ‘attractive, appealing space’ in the heart of the Danish city.
‘Visitors to the building and garden should be able to explore a world that is constantly offering new layers and new details,’ said the brief.
The history of the site and its ‘poetic potential’ should be considered, and the green space available should increase, according to the organisers.
The deadline for registration is 12 November, with entries to be posted by 29 November.
Up to three winners will be chosen by spring 2014, each receiving E20,000 (£17,000).
A major project is planned to reimagine the relevant area of Odense city centre, which is currently divided by a four-lane road that is to be overhauled.
