Holmes wins thumbs up for Edinburgh biological research facility

The Holmes Partnership has won the green light for this new research facility on the University of Edinburgh's King's Building campus.

The three-storey School of Biological Sciences building will link to the existing Rutherford building and house laboratories and an 'energy-efficient office'.

According to the practice, the new building 'will complement and enhance the surrounding garden landscape with a subtle and open design approach,' and 'large floor-to-ceiling windows will offer attractive uninterrupted views'.

There are also plans to build a roof-mounted greenhouse at a later stage.

The proposed building is intended as the first phase of a three-phase development, in accordance with the university's masterplan for the King's Buildings campus.
