The site of Herzog & de Meuron's £600 million Portsmouth FC stadium has been changed due to concerns from the Royal Navy.
Portsmouth Football Club has been forced to relocate its Herzog & de Meuron-designed stadium after concerns were raised by the Royal Navy.
The £600 million stadium will now be built at Hornsea Island instead of the Hard due to the Navy issuing objections as it had planned to base two new super aircraft carriers near to stadium.
Portsmouth FC chief executive Peter Storrie said this is a less problematic site.
'One big advantage of this site compared with the Hard is that there is no dredging and reclaiming of land from the sea and all the problems that go with that,' he said.
• Meanwhile, Liverpool Football Club's new stadium plans, designed by Texas-based HKS Architects, were rocked by the news that the cost has soared by £150 million and is now likely to hit the £400 million mark.
