Glasgow wins 2014 Commonwealth Games

Glasgow has won the bid to host the 2014 Commonwealth Games, beating Nigerian capital Abuja by 47 votes to 24.

The news is a massive boost for RMJM, which has been working with Glasgow City Council on the bid for two years, creating the masterplan for the Games' Athletes Village which will house up to 7,000 competitiors.

The 40ha masterplan site covers Dalmarnock in the east End of the city – one of Glasgow's most down-at-heel areas – and includes 1,000 new permanent homes, a new transport hub and a hotel.

Paul Stallan, UK design director of RMJM, said: 'The Games will contribute to the city's future architectural legacy by regenerating the east end and bringing lasting benefit to the city.'
