Work has started on this three-bedroom private house by Duggan Morris Architects, in Watford, north London.
The brief for the project was to create a 'modest but interesting' house for a couple who have lived in the area for many years, but wanted something more for their retirement.
Split over two storeys, the scheme, called Frobisher House, sits amid typical Victorian terraces on the site of the Frobisher Studio – a listed building, which was recently relocated to the grounds of Bushey Museum.
The new building will have a large central lightwell that will draw light down through the first floor to the ground floor, while the ground floor itself splits, providing a double-aspect living space and service areas.
According to the practice, the design 'deliberately does not seek to replicate any of the existing architecture in the adjoining streets'.
It is scheduled to be completed by July 2008
