UK-GBC recruits Code for Sustainable Buildings task group

The UK Green Building Council (UK-GBC) has announced the panel of experts that will help to shape a Code for Sustainable Buildings.

The group will aim to complement the government's consultation on its target to make all new buildings zero-carbon from 2019.

The task group comprises:
 
• Bill Bolsover, chief executive, Aggregate Industries;
• John Connaughton, partner, Davis Langdon;
• Ian Coull, chief executive, Segro;
• John Frankiewicz, chief executive, Willmott Dixon;
• Alistair Guthrie, director, Ove Arup & Partners;
• Ken Hall, managing director, Prologis;
• Bill Hughes, managing director, Legal & General Property;
• Daniel Labbad, chief executive UK, Lend Lease;
• Sunand Prasad, president, RIBA; and 
• Ant Wilson, business unit director, Faber Maunsell.

Paul King (pictured), UK-GBC chief executive and task group chair, said: 'We will be exploring what the industry needs in order to meet some very ambitious targets and deliver high-quality, high-value, sustainable buildings.

'The group will consider how a Code can provide a clear, robust, and holistic benchmark for what constitutes a "sustainable building". The benchmark should stand the test of time and be used with confidence by all stakeholders from product manufacturers to property investors.' 

RIBA president Sunand Prasad added: 'The task for the group will be to investigate whether creating a Code for Sustainable Buildings is the right way to achieve what we all agree is the objective – to substantially reduce carbon emissions from all new buildings.'
