Stirling Prize-shortlisted Alison Brooks Architects has teamed up with volume housebuilder Linden Homes for a new project in Essex.

The development, called 'Be at Newhall', will provide a new neighbourhood on the outskirts of Harlow, and Brooks will design 85 new units for the Galliford Try subsidiary, ranging from one-bedroom apartments to four-bedroom family 'villas'.

Brooks said: 'The scheme we have created for Linden Homes seeks to create new domestic typologies drawn from the powerful rural buildings found in the Essex landscape.

'Traditional roof forms have been abstracted into new geometries, which allow rooms in the roof, to provide the optimum location for solar panels and to permit sunlight into the gardens.'

Brooks' show home is expected to open in the autumn and the first properties will be occupied early next year.
