RyderHKS International has split after a seven-year joint venture to pursue 'individual growth', it has been announced.

The move means HKS will now take over the joint-venture company, becoming HKS Architects, while Ryder Architecture will continue to operate under its existing name and is expected to open a new office in London.

Ryder managing director Mark Thompson said: 'The joint venture has been hugely beneficial to both firms; however, we have decided that it is now time to pursue individual growth and develop our business in different directions. Ryder is in the process of setting up a new London office which will consolidate our position in the South East.'

HKS – which has offices in the USA, Mexico, India and the United Arab Emirates – said it remains committed to its work from its London office.

Ralph Hawkins, chairman of HKS Architects, said: 'Our focus now is on developing the office further as a base for servicing our clients in the UK, Europe, Middle East and North Africa, offering our international design experience in healthcare, hospitality, sports, corporate, education and entertainment practice.'

Nick Shapland and former RIBA president Paul Hyett will continue to run HKS Architects' London office. The practice is currently heading up Liverpool Football Club's new stadium (pictured).
