CABE has earmarked projects in Blackpool, Dover and Torbay for cash windfalls as part of the government's new Sea Change 'cultural regeneration' programme.
Around £4 million of the £10 million-worth of 'first phase' handouts has been given to a proposed new 20,000-capacity performance space - masterminded by LDA Design with a building by de Rijke Marsh Morgan - in front of Blackpool tower (pictured).
Elsewhere, Dover has scooped £3.8 million for Rumney Design's new cable car running up from the Western Dock to the refurbished castle, while Torbay has netted £2.2 million for plans to create ten artist studios, gallery and visitor centre, designed by Kay Elliott Architects.
Overseen by the Department of Culture Media and Sport, the three-year Sea Change programme will eventually deliver around £45 million in grants to 'cultural and heritage' related schemes in ailing coastal resorts.
CABE chief executive Richard Simmons, said: 'Blackpool, Dover and Torbay have all demonstrated a fresh approach to the use of design and culture to aid regeneration.
'What is important about these projects is that they embed good design and culture as a catalyst for quality place-making to benefit the community and visitors alike.'
