Europan winner Tom Russell shortlisted for Welsh green housing

Europan 9 victor Tom Russell Architects has been named on a four-strong shortlist in the contest to design a new green housing development in Lawrenny, rural Pembrokeshire.

The three other finalists in the competition – organised by the RIBA competitions office and the Royal Society of Architects in Wales – are Ash Sakula Architects, Davies Sutton Architects, and Letts Wheeler Architecture and Design.

A 'phenomenal' 90 practices entered the contest, backed by Lawrenny Enterprises, for the chance to mastermind the 'sustainable' residential scheme in the small Welsh village.

The quartet was chosen last week, from a long list which also featured Featherstone Associates, Inglis Badrashi Loddo Architects, Riches Hawley Mikhail Architects and David Kohn Architects.

Adrian Lort-Phillips, managing director of Lawrenny Enterprises, said: 'There is no doubt that we have got four incredibly talented teams lined up for the final stage.
 
'I am certain we would never have found them had we not run the RIBA competition.'
 
He added: 'Now we move to the design stage where it's going to get really exciting. We can't wait to see what the teams come up with.'
 
The four teams will present their developed design proposals to a jury in Lawrenny in late July.
