Carey Jones wins green light for Bury 'cheese grater'

Carey Jones has won the go-ahead for this 110-bedroom hotel in Bury, Greater Manchester, dubbed 'the cheese grater' because of its unusual solar shading.

The scheme for Whitbread's Premier Inn chain will sit next to a 1,500m2 office block and is part of AskBury's £80 million Townside development – a joint venture between Bury Metropolitan Borough Council and Ask Developments.

Simon Clarke, director at Carey Jones, said: 'It's extremely satisfying to gain planning for the next phase of buildings, in particular the innovative hotel design, which will create a fantastic focal point for the whole scheme.'

Work has already begun on the first phase of the 15,300m2 scheme opposite Bury Town Hall, which includes a 4,645m2 state-of-the art primary care centre for Bury Primary Care Trust, and a new three-storey car park with around 400 spaces.
