Avanti Architects saw off the likes of AEW Architects, SMAL, Grafik Architects and HTA Architects to win this year's Mail on Sunday British Homes Award.
The project – officially entitled Tomorrow's Lifestyle Home and designed to a minimum level 4 in the Code Sustainable Homes standard – will be built by developer Crest Nicholson 'in the UK next year.'The practice, which was one of 10 shortlisted (AJ 08.05.08), landed a cheque for £5,000.
Describing the scheme, a spokesman for the firm said: 'At the heart of the house an open lightwell acts as a "lung" distributing air, light and energy into the interior.
'[It has] adaptable spaces for successive generations as their needs change and is fully adaptable with access for people with disabilities.'
