Housing minister Caroline Flint officially opened the first zero-carbon home by a mainstream housebuilder yesterday (15 May).
Designed by London- and Cardiff-based practice Gaunt Francis, the three-bedroom Barratt Green House hits Level 6 of the Code for Sustainable Homes.
The house has been built at the Building Research Establishment (BRE) Innovation Park in Watford, joining the UK's first Code Level 6 house, designed by Sheppard Robson Architects.
Barratt will now test the building for the next two years, and plans to apply the most successful aspects of the design to future homes.
